Di Gibson is an accredited Mental Health Social Worker, with 30 years of Counselling experience in a variety of settings.
She is warm and engaging and focuses on creating a safe space for clients to begin or continue on their therapeutic journey.
Di obtained her degree from the University of Queensland and worked initially in child and adolescent trauma support. She then joined a small regional practice providing individual and group counselling to women survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Returning to Brisbane, she commenced work in the field of Employee Assistance and provided counselling to a broad range of employees (individuals and couples) from differing industries, across the full spectrum of mental health and general life issues. It was during this time that she further developed her skills as a trauma Counsellor through direct trauma response following critical incidents and large scale events as well as providing long term therapeutic support.
As an accredited Yoga Teacher, Di comes from a holistic perspective. She is passionate about the links between our mental health and wellbeing and physical health and self-care. She supports older teen and adult clients of all ages, cultures, gender and sexual orientation and socio-economic backgrounds.
She utilises Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to assist clients to become more present in their daily lives and to explore ways of increasing their capacity to experience a rich and meaningful life. Di is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). She works with her clients to safely unpack their issues at their own pace, while gently building small meaningful change. She focuses on assisting clients to develop flexible thinking and supportive self-care strategies. Di loves to help clients to understand their own experiences and to break down concepts that can at times feel complex and confusing.
Thirty years of experience in helping people has given Di a strong belief in life-long learning. She brings extensive experience to the counselling setting and also in the development and delivery of mental health training and professional supervision.
